Talking therapies
that make a difference
Therapy with us involves talking to a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
We offer a wide range of therapies recommended by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE), including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Counselling.
Therapy can be provided one-to-one, in a group, over the phone, via video call or online. Depending on the type of therapy offered, we will see you for 6–12 sessions and each session runs for 30 or 60 minutes. Sessions are scheduled at the same time each week.
We can see you in local health clinics across Portsmouth. All of our clinics are wheelchair friendly. If needed, we can provide an interpreter and easy read information.
Benefits of therapy
Sometimes it's easier to talk to one of us than to relatives or friends. We aim to:
give you a safe time and place to talk to us, without judging you
help you make sense of things and understand yourself better
help you resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them
help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act, and find ways to change them (if you want to).
A significant number of published research trials have evaluated the therapies we offer.
These therapies have shown to be helpful for common mental health difficulties, in addition to physical conditions such as chronic pain or fatigue.
We see the many different ways therapy can help. People often finish with a more positive outlook, they’ve overcome their fears, their relationships improve, and they feel hopeful about their future.

Courses and workshops
We often use courses and workshops as our first line in offering support. These can be individual online and with other attendees. People can feel nervous about attending them but they have some fantastic benefits and members are supported by the course facilitators at every step. We offer a wide range of courses and workshops, which include:
Balancing Your Thoughts
Mood Management
Stress management
Overcoming worry
Panic and Phobias
Health anxiety
Post Natal support
Long Term Conditions

Types of therapy
We offer many different types of talking therapy. For certain difficulties, one type of therapy may be better than another. Some talking therapies also suit different people.
Even those of us who offer the same kind of therapy will have a slightly different way of working from each other because all therapists have a personal style as well. We may suggest a combination of approaches if that could help you best.
Whichever therapy you begin, we’ll work together towards your goals and regularly check that we’re on the right track.
