Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness is moment-to-moment awareness of our experience, without judgement. Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) can help you to break negative thought patterns.

How it works

The therapy combines mindfulness techniques like meditation, breathing exercises and stretching with elements from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

We introduce you to skills to better respond to the ‘ups and downs’ of everyday living and enhance your general wellbeing.

The therapy aims to help you be more in the present moment, realise that you are not your thoughts, and be kinder to yourself.

What it’s like

Whilst all the therapies we offer have the potential to help you cultivate awareness, MBCT does this in a more intentional way.

By practising the skill of deliberately paying attention to what happens in our mind and body, we become more familiar patterns and habits.

You will learn to spot your own ‘warning signs’ early, before stress, depression or anxiety become too overwhelming. You can then make plans for how best to respond rather than reacting in old, familiar, often unhelpful ways.

The therapy is offered as an eight-week course. In between sessions, there are home practices that take approximately 60 minutes per day.
